THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE
No one can argue this point. Love, oxygen, sunlight, the natural beauty of the earth – all of these are ours without charge, and they are life's most wonderful blessings.
But little else is free in this world. No matter what social group (i.e.family, club, church) enterprise you name, it needs resources to keep going. We wish (more than you know) that membership in the RHS could remain free - as it was for 11 years! But the year-long effort to explain the necessity for required paid individual membership comes to an end on December 31, 2009. (An explanation remains on our website for anyone who wants to review it: Click here.)
But it's all been said. Gosh darn it, hard as we try (and we think we're reasonably good at communicating) we just can't figure out how to make the hard facts palatable to all! If we could figure out a way to present the facts in a funny, cute or witty manner, we certainly would. But sometimes you just have to put the truth out there and depend on the understanding of all those affected.
Our mission of fun and friendship has not changed, nor will it ever change. Each Red Hatter must decide, in her heart of hearts, whether or not to remain with us on our march to take over the world.. As the future unfolds, we will continue to develop more and more methods of supporting this mission of fun and friendship and offer it to women who need more of these things in their lives. As a sisterhood, we are still evolving, and we are excited about the future. If you believe in the value of what we have become and all that we strive to become, we hope you will stand up - and sign up!
If you do not feel that you can support the RHS, we want you to know that you will be missed, and we wish you well. Should you find that you miss being a part of our unique disorganization, at some time in the future, you will always be welcome to re-join.
Note: If, during this changeover, any of your Supporting Members somehow cease to receive any of our communications, including the Friday Broadcast, please have them contact Hatquarters so that we fix the problem right away.

With all sincerity, we wish to thank all of you who have been a part of the Red Hat Society for any period of time during our first 11 years. Your participation and enthusiasm have been valued and appreciated. Each of you has had a part in building the emotional (and, yes, spiritual) foundation of a disorganization that arose spontaneously out of one act of friendship. We hope that you will choose to continue to help it thrive.
Together, we go forward from here, somewhat smaller in numbers perhaps, but far more united in commitment and purpose.
Happy New Year!
